Professor Wlodzimierz Kurnik, PhD, DSc, is Rector of the Warsaw University of Technology (WUT), Poland, a member of the Presidium of the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland (CRASP), chairman of the CRASP Committee for Research and Innovation, and chairman of the Warsaw Science Consortium. He is a full professor of Applied Mechanics in the Institute of Machine Design Fundamentals at WUT, and has published more than 150 papers on stability and vibration control of mechanical systems. Since 1990 he has been a member of WUT governing bodies: in 1990-1999 he served as Deputy Dean for Studies and then as Dean of the Faculty of Automobile and Construction Machinery Engineering, where he introduced the 3-cycle study system in 1998. Before being elected Rector, he was Deputy Rector for General Affairs (1999-2005). He is an author of the UNESCO-CEPES report Warsaw University of Technology – 10 Years After and Looking Ahead, 2000. He has been conferred an honorary doctorate by the National Technical University of Ukraine, Kiev.
