Hannele Niemi, Ph.D, has been Professor of Education (since 1998) and Vice Rector for academic affairs (since 2003) at the University of Helsinki, Finland, with responsibility also for quality assurance and libraries. Prof. Niemi was Scientific Director of the national research programme “Life as Learning” from 2002-2006 at the Academy of Finland, and has chaired the CICERO Learning Network for multidisciplinary research on learning since 2005.
