Margret Wintermantel is President of the German Rectors' Conference (HRK) and has been President of Saarland University since 2000. She studied psychology and media studies at the University of Mainz. After gaining her doctorate in 1972 and research periods in the United States, she was research assistant and lecturer at the Institute of Psychology at the University of Heidelberg. She held several DFG research grants, and in 1986 she gained her habilitation degree in psychology. In 1992 she was appointed university professor for social psychology at Saarland University. She is also a member of the Austrian Science Council, of the Advisory Group “People” of the European Commission and of the Council of the United Nations’ University.
