Jean-Pierre Finance is currently serving a second term as president of the Université Henri Poincaré, Nancy 1, in France. He has been professor of informatics at this university since 1981, and was previously president from 1994-1999. He studied at Nancy from 1966 to 1971, became agrégé in mathematics in 1971, and earned his doctorat d’Etat in 1979. Jean-Pierre Finance is president of the French conference of universities (CPU), a member of the Comité National d’Evaluation de la Recherche, and was an advisor on research policies to the Minister of Education between 2000 and 2001. He was decorated Commandeur dans l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques (2002) and Chevalier dans l’Ordre National de la Légion d’Honneur (1997).
