Dr Christiane Gaehtgens is Secretary General of the German Rectors’ Conference (HRK) in Bonn. She studied in Giessen and Bonn, received her Ph.D from the University of Bonn in Comparative Literature, and completed her post-doctorate at the University of Washington, USA. From 1991- 1998, she was head of the North America Office and the London Office of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). She became the Secretary General of the newly founded “Wissenschaftliche Kommission” of Lower-Saxony, Germany in 1998, until 2003 when she joined the HRK.
