Description | Author: Manuel Assunção This article examines how the profile of the University of Aveiro, Portugal, has been developed through strategic planning and cooperation with stakeholders. In particular, the university’s interface with regional and local society is highlighted, and the academic developments which have enabled this. Special attention is paid to using the Bologna tools and degree cycles to respond to enhance the university’s profile and respond to changing stakeholder needs and opportunities. The article concludes with a brief discussion of the new contractual arrangements that have recently been agreed between the university and the government, and an overview of the university’s plans for strategic development within an open European Higher Education Area.
