Position President of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA)

Peter Williams has held senior posts in quality assurance in the UK since 1990, when he set up the UK universities’ Academic Audit Unit (AAU). From 1992 until 1997 he was Director of Quality Assurance in the Higher Education Quality Council (HEQC), which took over the responsibilities of the AAU and was merged with other organisations in 1997 to become the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA). In March 2002 he was appointed Chief Executive of QAA. In September 2005 he was elected President of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA) and represents ENQA on the Bologna Follow-Up Group (BFUG). He was re-elected as President of ENQA in September 2006.
